RoomKhojo

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 April 2026

This Policy explains how RoomKhojo handles personal information. It is designed for transparency and to support compliance expectations in India (including awareness of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023) and common international practice. For contractual terms, see our Terms of Service.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through the RoomKhojo website and related services (collectively, the “Service”). It does not apply to third-party sites or apps you open from the Service (for example WhatsApp).

2. Information we collect

You provide

  • Account details from sign-in (for example name, email, phone, profile image) when handled by our authentication provider.
  • Profile and listing information you choose to submit (for example rent, location, college, photos, preferences, WhatsApp or contact details you add to a listing).
  • Messages or reports you send to us.

Automatically

  • Technical data such as device type, browser, approximate region from IP, and timestamps.
  • Usage data such as pages viewed and interactions, to keep the Service secure and improve features.

3. How we use information

  • Provide, secure, and improve the Service (including authentication, listings, search, and abuse prevention).
  • Communicate with you about the Service, safety notices, or policy updates.
  • Comply with law and respond to lawful requests.

4. Legal bases (where applicable)

Depending on your region, we may rely on consent, contract performance, legitimate interests (such as fraud prevention and product improvement), or legal obligation. Where consent is required for specific processing, we will ask for it separately when appropriate.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information:

  • With service providers who help us host, authenticate, analyse, or secure the Service (for example cloud hosting or sign-in), under confidentiality and security obligations.
  • With other users as you direct — for example, information you place on a public listing.
  • If required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, with notice where required.

6. Cookies & similar technologies

We and our providers may use cookies or local storage for session management, preferences, security, and analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; some features may not work if you disable them.

7. Retention

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal, accounting, and security needs. Listing and account data may be deleted or anonymised when no longer required, subject to backups and technical constraints.

8. Your choices & rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. You may also object to certain processing or request restriction. Contact us to exercise these rights. You may also use account tools (where available) to update profile or listing data.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; you share information at your own risk when you post publicly or chat on third-party apps.

10. Children

The Service is not intended for children under 18 (or the age of majority). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11. International transfers

Our providers may process data in India and other countries. Where required, we will use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers consistent with applicable law.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date. Where changes are material, we will provide additional notice if required by law (for example by email or in-product banner).

13. Contact

For privacy questions or requests (including access, correction, or deletion where applicable), use the contact options published on the Service (for example the developer or support section on the home page).
